Tenant improvements for a 5,500 sqare foot, 120 seat, Japanese restaurant in Seattle, Washington. The program requirements dictated a buffet style serving, an open kitchen, active sushi counter, and open serving bar, together with full requirements for a restaurant of that size. The building is located in a rather non-descript single story shopping center, without any outdoor landscape or view.
Confronted with the bleakness of the exsiting environment, one of the main concerns for this project was the creation of an inward focusing experience. The most important design decision was to develop a geometry that would allow the spacial event to be layered in such a way that patrons would discover the buffet and the culinary experience through a series of inward moves. The whole process was composed of planes of colors and perspective centers that focus attention into the main areas of food display and preparation.
